Veurne: Communication bunker

Updates: October 31 2011, most pictures from January 29 2001.
The color pictures are from October 31, 2011.

The bunker is supposed to be a transmition bunker belonging to the 71st Infantry Regiment/171st Infantry Division.
At least two other crew bunkers were close by but they have been demolished long time ago.(one by the Germans and one by the owner)
The transmition bunker is still there but plans to demolish it in 2001 have not been established.

The bunker was beëing used for communication with Germany.
The bunker does have a resemblance with a luftshutzbunker.

The bunker is situated close at the parking place of the Hubo, close to the center of Veurne.

That's how the bunker looks now(2011), the pictures below are from ten years ago.

Front view with the sole entrance and flanking hole.

Left: Side view.

Entrance with outside view on the Nachkampfaum with Scharte.

Left entrance to corridor and right Eingangverteidigung.

There are four rooms, the last one split in two.

Left: looking in the direction of the eingangverteidigung.  Right: The two smaller rooms at the end of the corridor.

Looking through the corridor.

Some kind of bridge which I presume to be German.
